Seven Al-Shabaab Militants Arrested While Attempting to Flee Somalia

Seven Al-Shabaab militants have been arrested while attempting to flee Somalia into other neighboring countries.

Security agents arrested the militants who were mostly of Tanzanian and Ethiopian origin.

They were on their way out of the country where military operations against the militant group have been ongoing for several weeks now.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s administration has deployed Somali National Army (SNA) to various parts of the country for anti-terrorism operations.

Members of local communities have joined forces with the government troops to fight and defeat the terrorists.

Thus far, the anti-terrorism operations have been largely effective.

Security agents who arrested the seven terrorists were on the Kenyan side. Two were Tanzanians and the rest were Ethiopians.

The Kenyan authorities are yet to say whether those arrested would be tried in Kenya, be deported to Somalia, or sent to their countries of origin.
