Puntland has announced that it will no longer recognize the Federal G0vernment of Somalia (FGS).
Meeting under the leadership of Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, the region’s cabinet vowed to withdraw all recognition previously accorded the federal government.
The region’s administration took this step following the parliamentary endorsement of the amendments to the nation’s Provisional Constitution.
Mohamud Aydid Dirir, Puntland’s Minister of Information, read a statement saying that the region would no longer support the federal government and its institutions.
The statement by Dirir goes further to state that the situation would only be reversed once the federal government completes a constitution that is universally accepted by all stakeholders.
The move comes a few days after Deni held consultative meetings with ex-Presidents Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo in Garowe.
