Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS) and Somali Media Association (SOMA) have condemned the increased attacks against journalists in Somaliland.
SJS and SOMA issued statements strongly condemning the detention, harassment, and physical attacks meted against three journalists in the breakaway region of Somaliland.
They were referring to the detention of Imran Hussein Adan, a reporter with Horn Cable TV.
Adan was arrested in Borame on March 14.
Apparently, authorities were unhappy with his recent feature asking citizens for their views on President Muse Bihi Abdi’s visit to the United States.
Four days later, Somaliland authorities attacked Ali Mahdi Jibril and Abdisalan Ahmed Awad in Hargeisa.
SJS and SOMA expressed their deep concerns over the increasing attacks.
The two organizations also demanded the immediate release of Adan from the illegal detention at the hands of government officers.
