A recent operation by Somali National Army (SNA) killed 142 Al-Shabaab fighters and captured 18 of them alive.
A top SNA commander confirmed that the operation took place in Janaale Town.
SNA worked closely with AU and AFRICOM troops to wage a successful battle against the extremist group whose members have carried out violent attacks across the East African region.
SNA says that the operation that happened a fortnight ago was the result of years of planning and surveillance.
Following the brief conflict, SNA managed to recapture the town that had fallen into the hands of the Al-Qaeda linked group.
Since March 16, different raids organized by SNA in conjunction with its AU and US partners have killed 142 Al-Shabaab fighters, wounded 29 of them seriously, and captured 18 alive.
