Reports from Mogadishu indicate that the Somali National Army (SNA) has replaced the Commander of the specially trained Danab Special Forces.
According to multiple sources, Major Ismail Abdimalik is no longer the Commander of the US-trained Special Forces.
Danab Special Forces have enjoyed a stellar record, especially in the fight against Al-Shabaab and other similar militia groups.
Most analysts hail and tout them as the model upon which SNA must be rebuilt.
Nevertheless, Major Abdimalik is the sixth commander to leave the unit in the last seven years and such turnover rate does not augur well for the forces.
The military is yet to provide further information on where Major Abdimalik would be redeployed. It has not spoken of his replacement either.
