A Somali National Army (SNA) soldier was arrested over the rape of a 4-year old girl. The incident, which took place in Mogadishu, shocked and angered local residents.
The girl’s family said the incident happened in Wadajir, a Mogadishu neighborhood on Thursday at 10.30am.
According to her family, the soldier, who was identified as Mohamed, sneaked into the house where the girl lived with her kin.
At the time, the girl’s had gone shopping at a nearby market.
The girl, who was sexually assaulted and left with serious injuries, was rushed to a local hospital to receive medical treatment.
Police then showed up at the scene and arrested the soldier. He was taken to the Wadajir Police Station for interrogation.
The police have announced that investigations are now underway.
It comes hot on the heels of the recent raping of two girls aged 4 and 5. The two were kidnapped before being gangraped near Afgoye Town.
In Somalia, rape victims are usually forced to marry their rapists.
Additionally, most rape incidences go unreported around the country while rapists go unpunished and continue living their normal lives.
