A Somali National Army (SNA) soldier has been sentenced to death for raping a young child in May 2020.
The soldier was identified as Mohamed Hussein Elmi.
According to documents presented at the Mogadishu court, the soldier lived next door to the young girl’s family in Wadajir district in the capital.
The prosecution was able to prove without a doubt that Elmi defiled the young victim.
Incidences of sexual crimes against women and children have been on the increase around the country.
Parliamentarians are yet to debate and pass the Sexual Offences Bill 2018, though.
