Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers stopped an Al-Shabaab military attack against a military base in Gedo.
The repulsion comes a week after members of the Al-Qaeda linked group raided a military base in Mogadishu and killed more than eight SNA troops.
Lately, Al-Shabaab extremists have carried out sporadic attacks targeting military outposts and government officers around Somalia.
According to Gen. Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, the militants seem to have changed their modus operandi.
Unlike the past, when they focused most of their attacks at innocent civilians, Gen. Odowaa says Al-Shabaab militants seem to be targeting SNA’s Forward Operating Bases (FBOs) a lot.
Nevertheless, the extremists were unable to launch a successful attack at the Gedo military base on Saturday.
SNA soldiers engaged them in a fierce gun battle that lasted over 30 minutes.
During the attack, no government soldier was wounded. Afterward, normalcy was restored after the militants took off into the nearby thickets.
