Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) soldiers have regained control of Janale, a key town in Lower Shabelle region that had been under the control of Al-Shabaab.
Working together with AU-backed troops, soldiers from Somali National Army (SNA) carried out a successful operation on Monday.
Janale, which is about 100kms away from Mogadishu, has been under the control of the Al-Qaeda-linked militia for the last 10 years.
Abdi Ali, one of SNA’s Army Commanders, confirmed the capture while speaking to local media in the country’s capital.
However, Abdi Ali failed to provide more details of the operation and the current situation. At the time of going to press, Al-Shabaab was yet to comment on the claims by SNA.
