On Tuesday, the fragile Gedo region witnessed yet another round of clashes pitting the Somali National Army (SNA) troops against Jubbaland forces.
Although the clashes lasted a few minutes, residents in the region were left in shock by it all.
Witnesses said the fight broke out when SNA troops shot at Jubbaland forces that were at Balad-Hawo, a town lying along Somalia’s border with Kenya.
Jubbaland forces responded to the display of aggression by returning fire too.
Several casualties were reported though the exact number remains unknown.
Furthermore, it is not clear why the two sides were caught up in the latest round of clashes. SNA troops and Jubbaland forces have clashed in the region twice before
The clashes took place at a time when President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland has traveled to Mogadishu for election talks with President Mohamed Farmaajo of Somalia.
Both Madobe and Farmaajo have been at loggerheads with each other ever since the former won hotly disputed elections to be declared the President of Jubbaland.
