Somali National Army (SNA) troops destroyed an Al-Shabaab base in Lower Shabelle on the morning of October 20.
Military sources confirmed that the incident took place in Wanlaweyn District.
The sources stated that Al-Shabaab had been using the surrounding region as its tax collection points too.
According to a report recently released by the United Nations Panel of Experts this week, Al-Shabaab collects millions of US dollars each year.
There has been no detail on the casualties reported in today’s military operation in the region from either the SNA officers or Al-Shabaab sources.
