Somali National Army (SNA) troops have killed a senior Al-Shabaab militant of foreign descent who has been responsible for training the group’s new recruits.
The senior Al-Shabaab militant was killed on Friday in Middle Juba, according to a top SNA official who spoke to journalists in Mogadishu.
Recently, SNA has conducted several successful military operations against Al-Shabaab fighters in different parts of the country.
In addition to the senior militant, SNA troops also killed three other extremists working for the Al-Qaeda linked group.
The senior Al-Shabaab militant was identified as Ashraf Azmi Abu Hamda, who is originally from Nepal in the Middle East.
Ismail Abdi Malik Malin, a senior Commander in SNA’s 16th Division, stated that Hamda has been in hiding for years while recruiting and training tens of Somalis for Al-Shabaab.
