SoDMA and DTM Meet in Nairobi to Strengthen Data-Driven Disaster Response

Nairobi, Kenya — The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), in collaboration with the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), brought together disaster response practitioners, policymakers, and federal government representatives in Nairobi for a strategic forum aimed at enhancing data-driven decision-making in Somalia.

The high-level meeting focused on bolstering the country’s capacity to anticipate crises, mitigate the impacts of disasters, and safeguard vulnerable communities.

Participants emphasized the importance of using accurate, real-time data to improve coordination, planning, and emergency response efforts.

“This collaboration marks a significant step toward institutionalizing evidence-based strategies that prioritize early warning systems and rapid response mechanisms,” said a representative from SoDMA.

Discussions centered on integrating displacement data with national planning tools, strengthening inter-agency coordination, and developing community-based preparedness measures to reduce risk and promote resilience.

The forum also served as a platform to share best practices from across the region, highlighting successful models of disaster risk reduction and the role of technology in supporting humanitarian interventions.

The meeting concluded with a joint commitment to reinforce Somalia’s disaster management framework, improve data sharing protocols, and ensure that communities most at risk are not left behind in the face of climate and conflict-driven emergencies.
