SoDMA Launches Relief Effort for Beledhawo Displaced Families

Beledhawo, Somalia – The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) announced plans to distribute emergency relief aid today to families recently uprooted by violent clashes in Beledhawo district, Gedo region.

The assistance targets hundreds of households forced to flee their homes after recent conflicts disrupted daily life and heightened insecurity in the area. According to SoDMA officials, the package includes essential food items, clean drinking water, temporary shelter materials, and basic medical supplies aimed at stabilizing affected communities.

“SoDMA is working closely with local authorities and community leaders to ensure that the displaced families receive immediate support. Our priority is to provide urgent relief and help restore a sense of dignity for those who lost everything during the unrest,” said a SoDMA representative.

Beledhawo, a border district near Kenya, has frequently been the scene of political and clan-related tensions, leaving vulnerable civilians caught in the crossfire. Local humanitarian groups have raised concerns that many families, particularly women and children, remain in precarious conditions, lacking adequate food and shelter.

The aid distribution comes as the federal government continues to face mounting pressure to address both the humanitarian and security dimensions of Somalia’s ongoing crises. Officials have hinted that more coordinated relief operations may follow, depending on security access and available resources.

Community elders in Beledhawo welcomed the initiative but appealed for sustained assistance.

“This support is timely, but the displaced families need more than one-time aid. Rebuilding their lives requires long-term attention from both the government and humanitarian partners,” said an elder.

Somalia’s conflict-driven displacements have surged in recent years, with the UN estimating that hundreds of thousands remain internally displaced across the country. The Beledhawo relief operation is part of a broader national effort to strengthen disaster response and humanitarian coordination in conflict-affected districts.
