Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) presented a draft media bill to a Somaliland parliamentary committee on Wednesday September 23.
SOLJA organized a session with five members from parliament’s Social Affairs Committee.
Professionals from various backgrounds also attended the meeting. These included legal and religious consultants.
Mohamud Abdi Jama, SOLJA’s Chairman, stated that the meeting with the committee was designed to encourage them to lend their support to the draft media bill.
Abdirahman Mohamed Jama Xoog, the Vice-Chairman of the Social Affairs Committee, welcomed the decision by SOLJA to prepare and present the draft media bill to them.
He promised that the committee would review the draft bill comprehensively as part of its efforts to ensure that the country enjoys the services of a free and independent media.
