Somali Ambassador to Chair African Group at the UN

Abukar Osman Baale, the Somali Ambassador to the United Nations, will chair the African Group at the global body.

Ambassador Baale, who is also the Somali Permanent Representative at the UN, will chair the African Group in June 2023.

His appointment kicked off on Thursday.

While accepting the role, Amb. Baale expressed hope that he would be able to build on the achievements of his predecessor.

He added that his time in office would mostly be focused on enhancing unity and solidarity among African nations.

Baale also vowed to promote and defend the core interests of the African nations at the UN.
