Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Somalia’s Ambassador to Tanzania and the East African Community (EAC), Ilyas Ali Hassan, on Monday hosted Kenya’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Isaac Njenga, for high-level diplomatic talks at the Somali Embassy in Dar es Salaam.
The meeting focused on deepening bilateral relations, enhancing trade and business cooperation, and facilitating greater mobility between the two nations. Both envoys reaffirmed their commitment to advancing regional integration through the EAC framework, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in economic development, transport connectivity, and cross-border investment.
Amb. Hassan underscored Somalia’s readiness to play an active role within the EAC following its recent admission as the bloc’s eighth member. He highlighted the need for joint mechanisms to ease the movement of goods and people, noting that improved visa policies and logistical links would unlock new opportunities for businesses and citizens on both sides.
High Commissioner Njenga welcomed Somalia’s growing engagement in regional platforms, affirming Kenya’s support for its integration process. He stressed the role of diplomatic cooperation in addressing shared challenges such as trade barriers, infrastructure gaps, and security concerns along regional corridors.
The two diplomats agreed to explore practical initiatives that would boost economic ties and strengthen institutional collaboration between Mogadishu and Nairobi. Further technical discussions are expected in the coming months as both countries align their strategies within the wider EAC economic blueprint.
The meeting marks another step in accelerating Somalia’s full participation in the bloc, as member states position themselves to benefit from a more connected and prosperous East Africa.
