MOGADISHU — Somalia‘s Council of Ministers has appointed Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud as the new Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA).
The decision was approved during the Cabinet’s weekly meeting in Mogadishu, representing a significant change in leadership for the nation’s defense forces.
Strategic Leadership Shift
Brigadier General Mohamud replaces Major General Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, who has commanded the army during recent liberation efforts. Government officials indicated that this leadership transition aims to advance military modernization and introduce new tactical approaches to current national security initiatives.
The appointment comes as the Somali National Army maintains intensive operations against militant groups in the central and southern regions.
Dual Mandate
The Federal Government has assigned the new commander a dual mandate: professionalizing military personnel and eliminating insurgent threats.
Defense authorities expressed confidence in Brigadier General Mohamud’s capacity to continue battlefield successes. His administration is expected to concentrate on optimizing command frameworks and boosting the combat preparedness of forces as they advance to the next stage of the security offensive.
