Civil society organizations in Somalia are to initiate mediation efforts between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and opposition candidates.
On December 23, a meeting between representatives of the civil society and those from the Council of Union of Presidential Candidates vouched for this move.
Opposition presidential candidates met with Tahliil Shatax, the Chairperson of the umbrella body of the civil society organizations.
During the meeting, the candidates discussed their concerns and the challenges they face with Shatax.
Ex-President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, the Chairperson of the Council of Union of Presidential Candidates, said that the civil society is ready to launch mediation talks on the matter.
The differences between the government and the opposition threaten the much-awaited elections in the country.
