A group of prominent Somali religious clerics strongly condemned Ethiopia’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland.
Speaking to the media on Monday, the clerics emphasized their opposition to any agreement that undermines Somalia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
In their view, the MoU that Ethiopia signed with the breakaway region of Somaliland on January 1 this year is highly unwelcome.
They expressed their support for Somalia’s growing relationship with Egypt.
The clerics cited Egypt’s reaffirmation of its commitment to upholding unity and territorial integrity of Somalia.
The clerics view Ethiopia’s MoU with Somaliland as a threat to regional stability and a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty.
They further aligned themselves with Egypt’s stance against actions that jeopardize Somalia’s unity.
