SABIID/CAANOOLE — A high-level federal delegation led by the Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, and the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh, conducted an official oversight visit to the Sabiid and Caanoole districts in the Lower Shabelle region today.
Accompanied by the newly appointed Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA), Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, the officials arrived to monitor the Federal Government’s stabilization strategies and assess the progress of resettlement programs for families previously displaced by conflict in these recently recovered areas.
Restoring Communities During the tour, the delegation inspected newly constructed housing units established following the recovery of the area from Al-Shabaab influence. Authorities confirmed that displaced individuals are currently being transitioned into these permanent dwellings, a development described as a critical step toward restoring stability and reviving local economic activities.
Humanitarian Aid Distribution In addition to infrastructure oversight, the ministers supervised the distribution of food aid and relief supplies to vulnerable households. The initiative is designed to support daily subsistence and accelerate the rehabilitation of the recently freed districts.
Federal officials reiterated the government’s strategy for liberated territories, which prioritizes combining military security with continuous humanitarian assistance and long-term development projects.
