Somali Defence Chief, UNSOS Bolster Security Partnership

Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Fiqi, on Sunday met with Ms. Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai, Director of Mission Support for the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), to reinforce cooperation in strengthening the nation’s security apparatus.

The talks centred on enhancing the strategic partnership between the Ministry of Defence and UNSOS, with a focus on supporting ongoing security operations, equipping the Somali National Army (SNA), and boosting the capacity of Somalia’s security institutions.

Fiqi commended UNSOS for its crucial role in providing non-lethal logistical assistance to the armed forces, a contribution he said has been instrumental in the progress made against terrorist groups. He emphasised that sustained collaboration is key to consolidating recent security gains and advancing the country’s stability.

Ms. Sadozai reaffirmed UNSOS’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s security transition, noting that the office would continue to align its assistance with the government’s priorities in building a professional, well-equipped military capable of safeguarding the nation.
