Somali Government Executes Soldier Who Assassinated Federal Minister in 2017

The Somali government has executed a soldier who shot and killed a federal minister in 2017.

Ahmed Abdullahi Aidid was executed on Saturday, October 23, 2022.

The courts found Aidid guilty of the crime of assassinating Abbas Abdullahi Siraji on May 3, 2017.

The court convicted and sentenced him to death by execution on June 19, 2017.

Since then, Aidid has been in prison awaiting his day with the executioners.

The late minister’s brother, Mohamed Siraji, was among the first to express gratitude to the administration of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for executing Aidid.

At the time of his death, Siraji had been the federal Minister of Public Works.
