Somali Government Orders ISPs to Block Four Al-Shabaab Websites

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has ordered Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block four Al-Shabaab websites.

The federal Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism issued an order dated Saturday, October 8 to this effect.

In the statement, the information ministry lists the websites in question as Somalimemo, RadioAlFurqaan, Amiirnuur, and Calamada.

“Somali government recognizes the crime that the websites commit in disseminating pro-terrorism messages and acts of brutality,” the statement noted.

Further, the government also recommended the blocking of Telegram and Smallwarsjournal.

Interestingly, a couple of these websites were still up and running a few hours after this announcement.
