A Somali journalist has committed herself to the fight against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the country.
Hamdi Diriye Ali reaffirmed her commitment during an interview conducted with Radio Dhusamareb on January 15.
During the interview, Ali said that she would remain steadfast in the fight until FGM is eradicated from Somalia.
Most specifically, she promised to use her platform in the media to fight against FGM in central parts of the country.
“I’ committed to champion the cause and fight against FGM in Somalia,” she announced.
FGM is commonly practiced by members of different communities around the Horn of Africa region despite the uproar it elicits from human rights activists.
