A Somali journalist working with CGTN Africa has said the current administration led by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has been the worst for the media.
Abdulaziz Billow Ali said this during a TV interview conducted on August 18.
In the interview, Ali shared his experience as a journalist candidly and said President Farmaajo’s regime has suppressed press freedom around the country.
In his personal experience, illegal arrests of journalists have increased manifold under Farmaajo’s rule than at any other point in the country’s history.
Ali also stated that the government’s love affair with the constant intimidation and frustration of journalists continues unabated.
The journalist has previously worked with Somalia’s Ministry of Information, Iran’s Press TV, VOA News, DW News, TRT World, and RNW Media among others.
His sentiments come at a time when the government has been under intense scrutiny for the recent arrests of journalists and closure of radio and TV stations around the country.
