Somali Journalists Encouraged to Increase Reporting on Climate Change Challenges

Somali journalists have been encouraged to increase reporting on the challenges of climate change.

Catriona Laing, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) of the United Nations, invited the journalists to report more on climate change.

She said this on Friday while commemorating the World Press Freedom Day.

In her speech, Laing said that climate change and its subsequent effects continues to affect the lives and livelihoods of millions of Somalis in the country.

She called on Somali journalists to shine more light on all components of environmental crisis.

Laing mentioned the important role that journalists play in creating awareness on climate change.

“Somalia will struggle to achieve sustainable development goals as well as the much sought after stability without accurate and timely reports on environmental issues,” said Laing.
