Journalists from various media houses in Somalia have gathered at Mubaarak Hotel in Mogadishu to protest what they refer to as a “draconian” Media Law.
Yesterday, news from Villa Somalia indicated that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has signed the bill into law.
However, as Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS) report, several journalists were unimpressed.
On Wednesday, they all gathered at the Mogadishu hotel to demand that the new law should be repealed immediately.
Editors and media representatives were at the hotel to lend their voice to the protest too.
Apart from SJS, the Somalia Media Association (SOMA), an organization of independent media owners, joined the protests too.
