Somali military has announced its plans to join hands with a local militia group in HirShabelle to fight Al-Shabaab.
On August 25, security authorities in the region announced that the Somali military would work closely with the Ma’awisley militia group.
The militia group has been fighting against Al-Shabaab for a while.
It will now receive support from Somali government troops to continue fighting Al-Shabaab militants.
Al-Shabaab has a strong presence in the region.
Ma’awisley mostly operates Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan, where it has been since last year. They have also moved to Lower Shabelle.
