A legislator from Somalia’s House of the People (Lower House) has called on the Prime Minister of Ethiopia to apologise for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier this year with Somaliland.
The legislator, Ayub Ismail Yusuf, issued the call on Wednesday.
He was responding to comments by Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Taye Atske-Selassie.
The recent statement by Taye sparked significant reactions in Somalia.
House of People lawmaker Yusuf responded by calling on Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to rescind the controversial MoU signed with Somaliland, a breakaway region seeking independence from Somalia.
Yusuf also demanded an apology from Ethiopia, viewing the MoU as a violation of Somalia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The call underscores the sensitive nature of the issue and reflects the broader regional complexities and the need for diplomatic tact in addressing such matters.
