Somali Navy and Coast Guard Officers Complete Specialized Maritime Security Training

Somali Navy and Coast Guard (SNCG) personnel completed a two-week training on maritime security.

They were the second batch to go through the training offered jointly by the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and European Union Capacity Building Mission (EUCAP) in Somalia.

The second round of training attracted 15 Coast Guards.

Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding, the ATMIS Force Commander, commended those who underwent the training successfully.

He added that the training was conducted in line with the aspirations of the Somali Transition Plan (STP).

“The training seeks to transfer the necessary skills to Somali coast guards to enable them to take over maritime security responsibilities once ATMIS exits the scene in December 2024.
