Opposition candidates in Somalia have thrown their weight behind Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.
On September 10, the Council of Presidential Candidates (CPC) issued a press release indicating that they support Roble’s leadership.
They spoke amid a worsening of relations between Prime Minister Roble and President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
Roble and Farmaajo have differed vehemently over the move by the Prime Minister to sack two senior officials of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
First, Roble sacked Fahad Yasin, who had been the Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).
A few days later, he followed that move by sacking Hassan Hundubey Jimale from his position as the Minister of Internal Security.
In CPC’s statement, the opposition politicians urged Farmaajo to avoid escalating the political situation in the country when his term already ended.
