Somali Parliament Endorses New Electoral Deal Paving Way for Elections

The House of Representatives and the Senate held a joint session on Saturday to discuss the newly signed elections agreement.

Reports from today’s parliamentary session indicate that the Lower House and Upper House voted overwhelmingly for the agreement.

During the session, 252 Members of Parliament (MPs) voted to approve the agreement. One MP abstained while two others rejected the deal.

Consequently, Somalia is now poised to proceed with the upcoming polls.

Despite reports that parliament would amend the agreement, multiple insiders state that MPs approved the deal unchanged.
