Somali PM Explores Investment Ties in Ningxia, China

Yinchuan, China — Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Tuesday held talks with Li Yifei, Governor and Party Secretary of Ningxia Province, aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation and strengthening the historic partnership between Somalia and China.

The Prime Minister was warmly welcomed in Yinchuan, where he emphasized Somalia’s readiness to open its economy to Chinese investment, particularly in agriculture, fisheries, livestock, and energy. He underlined that Somalia’s vast natural resources and strategic location make it a promising destination for businesses seeking new frontiers in Africa.

“Somalia is keen to deepen economic ties with China by creating opportunities that will benefit both our people,” PM Barre said, adding that sectors like agriculture and livestock offer immediate prospects for Chinese investors.

Governor Yifei described Somalia as a country rich with untapped resources and potential, assuring that Ningxia would encourage its enterprises to explore opportunities in Somalia. He praised the growing trust between the two nations and affirmed that business partnerships would serve as a strong pillar of future cooperation.

The meeting in Ningxia comes as Somalia seeks to expand its global partnerships and attract foreign investment to support its post-conflict recovery and long-term economic development. China has been a longstanding partner of Somalia, with cooperation spanning infrastructure, education, and humanitarian assistance.

Observers note that Tuesday’s talks signal a new phase in Somali-Chinese relations, with a stronger focus on trade and private sector engagement.
