Somali PM Heads to China for 7th China-Arab States Expo

Mogadishu, Somalia – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre departed Mogadishu on Sunday for China, where he will participate in the 7th China-Arab States Expo. The four-day event brings together government leaders, investors, and policymakers to deepen economic and trade cooperation between China and the Arab world.

During his visit, Prime Minister Barre is expected to hold bilateral meetings with senior Chinese officials to explore avenues for expanded trade and investment.

Discussions will center on key sectors including infrastructure development, technology transfer, agriculture, and energy – areas the Somali government has prioritized to accelerate economic growth and job creation.

The China-Arab States Expo, hosted in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, has grown into a major international platform since its launch in 2013.

It seeks to promote economic integration, market access, and cultural exchange between China and participating Arab countries. Somalia’s participation underscores its commitment to diversifying partnerships and strengthening its role in regional and global markets.

Officials in Mogadishu have described the Prime Minister’s visit as an opportunity to not only attract foreign direct investment but also to showcase Somalia’s emerging market potential as the country works toward stability and long-term development.

Barre’s delegation is also expected to meet with private sector representatives to highlight opportunities in Somalia’s growing digital economy, maritime trade, and renewable energy.

The Prime Minister’s attendance marks another step in advancing Somalia-China relations, which have expanded in recent years through cooperation in infrastructure, education, and development projects.
