Aweys Osman Abdi, the man who allegedly killed his entire family, has been arrested and taken into custody in Galkayo.
Abdi is accused of killing four of his family members while injuring five others.
He is alleged to have killed and injured members of his family at an IDP Camp near Mogadishu on July 9.
Witnesses said Abdi opened fire on his family and other people who were nearby. After shooting them, he tried to escape the mob that was baying for his blood.
He has remained in hiding since then.
However, a joint effort between security forces in Galmudug and Somali police eventually led them to his hiding place where he was arrested.
Gen. Qassim Sheikh Doon, the Commander of the Mudug Regional Police Force, confirmed Abdi’s arrest today.
Gen. Doon said the police are still investigating circumstances that pushed Abdi to kill his wife first then follow this up by murdering the family as they buried her the following night.
Abdi is expected to be arraigned in a Mogadishu court as soon as possible to face murder charges.
