The Prime Minister of Somalia has assured the country’s journalists of government protection.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre offered the assurances on Thursday while addressing journalists.
He was speaking at an event held in Mogadishu to commemorate the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists.
“The government remains determined to protect journalists from violence and intimidation,” he said.
Over the years, Somalia has not enjoyed a solid reputation where press freedom is concerned. It is routinely listed among the most dangerous countries for journalists.
