Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has extended a message of congratulations to the new United Kingdom Premier.
The Somali Prime Minister congratulated Rishi Sunak who was elected the new UK Prime Minister.
Sunak remained the sole candidate for the position after his closest challenger for the leadership of the Tory party withdrew.
Consequently, the 42-year-old has become the first British Prime Minister of Asian descent.
He was born to a Kenyan father and a Tanzanian mother.
Sunak is now the youngest Prime Minister in the history of the UK in the last 200 years.
Prime Minister Barre said that Sunak’s victory is “historic” and underpins the multiculturalism and racial equality of the UK.
He expressed hope that Somalia and the UK would build upon the already robust bilateral relations.
