The President and Prime Minister of Somalia have both mourned the killing of an elder in a terrorist attack.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre led the nation in mourning the death of Elmi Hagar Gure.
The traditional elder, a leading figure in the country, died when Al-Shabaab militants attempted to raid a village in Hiiraan on Thursday.
The President hailed Gure as a true peace activist and martyr.
He reminded the nation that Gure had always fought for peace, security, and safety in Somalia.
President Mohamud added that Gure never feared death but had never shied away from expressing his willingness to die for a good cause.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister urged Somalis to follow the example that Gure set in his life.
He asked them to fight to liberate themselves from Al-Shabaab and other similar groups that are against peace in Somalia.
