Somali President Arrives in Uganda on Official Visit

Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Uganda on Friday on an official visit.

His visit highlights the ongoing efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, particularly in the realm of counterterrorism.

Somalia has been grappling with the threat posed by Al-Shabaab, a militant group with ties to Al-Qaeda, and collaboration with neighboring countries like Uganda is crucial in addressing this challenge.

Uganda, as a key contributor to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the new AU Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), has played a significant role in supporting Somalia’s security and stabilization efforts.

He will hold discussions with his host, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The discussions are likely to be on enhancing intelligence sharing, joint military operations, and capacity-building initiatives to combat terrorism.

Additionally, the visit underscores the importance of diplomatic engagement in fostering regional stability and addressing shared security concerns.

This meeting could pave the way for more robust bilateral ties, not only in security but also in areas such as trade, development, and humanitarian assistance.
