Somali President Issues Famine Warning

The President of Somalia has issued a warning regarding impending famine in the country.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud issued the warning on Friday, July 29. He declared that Somalia is now officially experiencing a famine.

The President issued the warning in a mosque in Mogadishu during the Friday prayers.

During his speech, President Mohamud urged local and international partners to come to the rescue of the East African nation.

He called for an immediate response to avert the crisis.

The United Nations has issued various warnings regarding the ongoing drought in Somalia.

It stated that the drought would affect more than 7 million people in the country with almost 500,000 individuals at risk of famine.
