Somali President Mourns Deaths from Deadly Garowe Clashes

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has mourned people killed in the deadly Garowe clashes on Tuesday.

The President sent a message of condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in yesterday’s clashes.

Dozens of people died when forces allied to Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni clashed with those who support the opposition.

The genesis of the conflict that led to the clashes was the planned amendments to the Constitution.

There are fears that President Deni intends to use the amendments to extend his term in office, a development that has caused plenty of disaffection.

The Somali President urged traditional elders to be at the forefront of restoring peace in the region.
