Somali Speaker, Petroleum Minister Discuss Boosting Legislative Backing for Resource Development

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Dahir Shire, held a productive meeting on Thursday with the Speaker of Parliament, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, to discuss deepening cooperation and strengthening legislative support for the country’s growing petroleum and mineral sectors.

The discussion focused on aligning the ministry’s development agenda with the legislative framework needed to ensure sustainable management of Somalia’s vast natural wealth. Shire emphasized that strong parliamentary engagement is essential to advancing resource governance, transparency, and equitable benefit-sharing among all Somali citizens.

Speaker Madobe reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to supporting the ministry’s reform efforts, highlighting the importance of sound laws and oversight mechanisms that attract responsible investment and protect national interests.

Shire described the meeting as “constructive and forward-looking,” noting that the dialogue underscored a shared vision for harnessing Somalia’s petroleum and mineral potential as a cornerstone of economic recovery and national unity.

The engagement reflects a broader push by the Federal Government to strengthen institutional collaboration, improve accountability, and lay the groundwork for sustainable resource-driven growth in Somalia.
