COVID-19 has ravaged Somalia thus forcing the government to institute several measures to curb the spread of the virulent disease around the country.
Some of the measures include banning all domestic and international flights, imposing a nighttime curfew, and closing all schools and educational centers.
Consequently, universities in the country have embraced digital learning to help them continue providing the services their students need.
Mogadishu’s Plasma University is one such institution of higher learning.
Its classrooms, which were once full to capacity, are now empty. Its gardens no longer attract the foot traffic that they once did too.
Ali Haji Barre, Plasma University’s Public Relations Manager, says they have to comply with government directives on social distancing and closure of all learning institutions.
Plasma, which was among the first universities in the nation to shift to online learning, has witnessed a massive increase in its Internet bandwidth.
University students and lecturers have all welcomed online learning since they know that digital classes protect them against the virulent disease that has claimed over 200,000 lives globally.
