Somalia Adopts a National Strategy on Blue Economy

Somalia has adopted a national strategy for the blue economy.

The East African nation adopted the National Blue Economy Strategy following a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama.

Ahmed Hassan Aden, the federal Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy attended the meeting.

Other Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) ministers and officials from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) were at the high-level meeting too.

For years, Somalia has operated without an official national strategy for the blue economy.

Consequently, many people have operated in its waters illegally thus leading to a massive loss of vital revenue.

The adoption of the national strategy was announced on January 31.
