The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the African Union (AU) have agreed to review African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Last month, AMISOM’s mandate in the East African nation was extended.
For several months now, Somalia and AU have continuously haggled over the form that AMISOM should now take.
Both sides have not been seeing eye to eye.
Nevertheless, reports from Mogadishu indicate that they now have an agreement.
Under their new agreement, both sides have now agreed on the basics of the new AMISOM format.
Additionally, they have agreed on predictable funding for AMISOM.
Further, as per their agreement, AMISOM is to put more emphasis on the renewed fight against Al-Shabaab.
