Djibouti City, Djibouti — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia met with President Ismail Omar Guelleh of the Republic of Djibouti at the Presidential Palace in Djibouti on Saturday, reaffirming the enduring ties between the two nations.
The high-level meeting focused on bolstering cooperation in critical areas including security, trade, and regional development. Both leaders underscored the importance of continued collaboration in the fight against international terrorism, emphasizing their shared commitment to stability and peace in the Horn of Africa.
President Mohamud praised Djibouti’s long-standing support for Somalia’s state-building efforts and its active role in regional peacekeeping. In turn, President Guelleh reiterated Djibouti’s readiness to work hand-in-hand with Somalia to address common security threats, improve cross-border trade, and champion regional integration.
The two sides also explored joint initiatives to foster economic development, facilitate trade corridors, and deepen infrastructure linkages as part of a broader regional strategy for prosperity.
This latest engagement between the Somali and Djiboutian heads of state comes at a time of increasing regional cooperation amid shared challenges, including terrorism, migration, and economic recovery.
The leaders concluded the meeting by expressing mutual optimism about the future of bilateral relations and pledged to hold follow-up sessions to translate their commitments into actionable outcomes.
