Somalia and Ethiopia Sign Deal to Renew Cooperation and Strengthen Ties

Somalia and Ethiopia have signed a deal to renew cooperation and strengthen ties.

The two neighboring Horn of Africa nations signed the deal following a meeting in Addis Ababa between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

Somalia’s President Mohamud was in Ethiopia on a 2-day visit courtesy of an invitation from his host Prime Minister Ahmed.

The two leaders signed a 10-point declaration.

Their priority would be to not only nurture but also strengthen the “long-standing ties” between Somalia and Ethiopia.

They emphasized the importance of leading their respective governments to work closely together.

Further, they vowed to negate the effects of undue influence from external sources.

President Mohamud and Prime Minister Ahmed were meeting for the first time on Ethiopian soil since the former won Somalia’s presidential elections held in May 2022.
