Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia and Italy have officially launched an eight-month specialized training program targeting staff from Somalia’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Justice. The program, facilitated by the Italian Embassy in Mogadishu, aims to strengthen institutional service delivery and governance through practical, expert-led education.
The initiative, unveiled on Tuesday, brings together Somali civil servants and international trainers in a collaborative academic setting. It will emphasize case-based learning, designed to tackle real-world challenges faced by frontline public service professionals in health and justice sectors.
Officials from both countries hailed the program as a significant stride in bilateral cooperation.
“This is a key step toward stronger governance and deeper academic collaboration between our two nations,” read a joint statement from the Somali ministries and the Italian Embassy.
According to organizers, the training is structured around interactive modules that promote problem-solving, ethics in public administration, and service excellence. Participants will also engage in peer-learning workshops, simulations, and follow-up assessments to measure practical outcomes.
The Italian Ambassador to Somalia, along with senior Somali officials, attended the launch event, reiterating shared commitments to long-term institutional development. Italy has been a long-standing partner in Somalia’s state-building journey, particularly in health, education, and rule of law reforms.
The training program is expected to conclude in early 2026 with a comprehensive review of its impact and recommendations for future collaboration.
This initiative comes as Somalia works to rebuild its institutions amid ongoing security, economic, and social reforms.
