Changsha, China – Somalia and Kenya have reaffirmed their commitment to respecting each other’s sovereignty and national unity, following high-level diplomatic talks between Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Ali and Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi.
The meeting took place in Changsha, China, where both ministers underscored the importance of maintaining regional stability through mutual respect and cooperation. The renewed commitment comes shortly after Kenya held a high-profile meeting with Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Irro, drawing regional attention.
Somalia has long viewed such engagements with Somaliland—a self-declared republic that seeks international recognition—as sensitive to its territorial integrity. Despite this, both sides expressed a shared interest in preserving peaceful relations and advancing regional diplomacy.
The Changsha dialogue signals ongoing efforts by Horn of Africa nations to reinforce diplomatic channels amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
